OK, so I watch a lot of reality TV. I’m sure at one point I’ve mentioned this.
Few things annoy me when it comes to this genre.
Everyone knows that calling it “reality TV” in the first place is a bit of a stretch. The Executive Producers, who I guess have some intrinsic understanding of what viewers want, make decisions accordingly. Sometimes people stay around longer than they should and baffle those of us at home. OK, I get it. I can deal. But I’ve been watching one show in particular that has me pissed:
I like dancing. I really like seeing skilled dance crews, who otherwise wouldn’t get a chance anywhere else, showcase their talents on TV. It’s awesome. These guys work hard and some of the stuff they do is amazing.
There is one group I harbor a special brand of hate for. This group highlights the exact reason people have no faith in shows like this.
The group? They call themselves “Femme 5″ and frankly… they suck.
Oh, they’re HOT… but they suck.
I watched the live audition where they first performed, I wasn’t impressed then and I’m even less impressed now. They are sexy, they use their hair a lot, but THEY CAN’T DANCE. On the audition show they said they got a lot of their dance moves from Pop videos… you know what? It was painfully obvious. These girls looked like a bunch of [insert ANY female Pop Star] in the making. Their performance didn’t WOW, it was nothing you can’t see anywhere else, and they just don’t stand out. Femme Five is a clear example of girls getting by on their looks. Clearly they’re being kept around for the pure sex appeal they supposedly bring to the show.
It’s frustrating.
This show is supposed to find “America’s Next Dance Crew“, not “America’s Next Group of Hot Chicks Who Couldn’t Come Up With an Original Move if it Killed Them.”
HATE.
On the premiere of the show, the dance crews had a short amount of time to prepare some new stuff to once again show off their talent. Femme 5 admitted… ADMITTED to never choreographing their own stuff (remember, they watch and “copy” different Pop videos). So in essence, they aren’t a “dance crew” but a “group of dancers” (there is a difference). And what did they do for the premiere? More boring “Pop” moves with a few HORRIBLY executed b-boy stunts. ARGH! Wtf? Really… wtf?
If you didn’t watch the live audition, you missed the crowd booing when they were chosen over a more talented group (”BreakSk8″. Because they won a “last minute” dance-off they were able to advance). If you didn’t watch the premiere show, you also missed the crowd booing when they were picked to advance to the following week, leaving the more talented “Iconic” to battle for a chance to continue. They won, and rightly so.
I don’t get it. Considering the talent they are up against and all the Awesomeness these groups bring to the table, I see no place for the cookie-cutter antics of Femme 5.
When is it going to be more about talent and less about looks?
Femme 5, if you’re reading this (and even if you’re not)… YOU SUCK!

Sadly it’s not showing in Spain right now, and probably won’t anyway, but who decided they’re hot. As far as I’m concerned they look like a bunch of girl next door types, not hot at all!
On the other hand I can see where you’re coming from because I do remember Idol and some of Randy’s comments about who’s hot or not and frankly the man has no taste.
This is all Britney’s fault!

Mike- LOL… I don’t know if I should laugh or feel bad for ya.
Carl- Well you know, the general consensus on the show is that they’re hot. I think they’re attractive, but their looks shouldn’t come before talent. Drives me nuts.
Random- Tell me about it. Not to mention they blatantly ripped off some of her moves!
Dawn- Argh.. really, I am getting tired of this. If this is what they are going to keep doing they should at least be honest about it. “Yes, you can’t dance but you’re HOT… congratulations you’re through to the next round.” I’d respect that a lot more.
I know how frustrating it can be watching one of these shows and they continue to keep a person or a group around that everyone thinks more closely resembles shit-stained underwear than talent. I gave up reality shows a little bit ago so I am not too familiar with this show but I don’t think this is the one to bring me back to reality.
First off, I have no idea how you can stand a “reality” t.v. show and second add to that the excuse for a channel called MTV. (Remember when MTV meant you could watch music videos 24/7?)
When it comes to females, looks always seem to get them farther along than talent. Look at Britney, Jessica, et al. But, you’re right, my friend, it sucks!
But, the fact that you hate them so much, yet continue to watch the show shows the producers that they have made the right decision to keep these girls around. It’s all about making money
Mr. Shife- LOL. I can’t believe I was mad enough to write a WHOLE post about it. That says something…and don’t tell me what.
Frank- I watch for the vastly superior talent. The show has excellent dancers, and I tune in to see REAL people showcase the craft they’ve mastered. Femme 5 is just a blot on an overall impressive canvas.
I’m not saying it’s bad to get by on your looks… LOL… but if that’s the way this show is going, I say be up front about it. Don’t try to convince me these girls have “it”.
And yes, MTV is pretty much in the toilet, but they feed my addiction, nonetheless.
Yet to air in India… But there are dozens and dozens of such idiotic shows to fill the airtime of 100’s of channels here.

Yeah, the getting by on looks alone thing always sucks. Unfortunately, it happens all the time, on all different levels.
As far as reality goes… I wish they’d make a true reality show.
They’d show kids fighting with each other, a mother in the kitchen threatening, “Don’t MAKE me come in there!” - the dad would be in his recliner in the living room, playing flickie channel while dangling his dirty socks on his big toe.
Now THAT’S reality.
Looks to me like a couple of those girls have mullets. Which, if you ask me, should instantly disqualify them. I’m just saying.
