When Horribly Wrong is the Opposite of Good

I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but I have not posted anything in almost FOUR DAYS! WOW! I mean, I usually try to post every other day, ya know? Some people feel the need to apologize for an offense of this nature, but I am not going to. Life suddenly decided to get all busy and interesting, providing me with things to tackle. I, being the trooper I am, took everything in stride and have conquered that which dared to separate me from my beloved Internet.

In other words: I’m BACK! Hooray!

So you know how you can hear a song a few times, but never really pay attention to it? I recently heard “Opposites Attract” by Paul Abdul and nearly had a fit when the lyrics forcefully broke into my conscious mind, AND the H refused to change the station. He likes that song! Who the hell likes that song?

No really… who likes this song?

This song annoyed me so much I have decided to dedicate an entire post to it, thereby expending even more energy hating it. Logic? Pfft! Not today.

Shall we?

I’m M.C. Kat on the rap so mic it
Here’s a little story and you’re sure to like it
Swift and sly and I’m playing it cool
With my homegirl, Paula Abdul

If you have never seen the video, then you might not know this stanza is rapped by an animated anthropomorphic cat wearing sunglasses (whose name incidentally is MC Skat Kat). Granted, just by listening to the song, this information is not obvious. But since the video is how people remember the song, the lyrics will be analyzed as they were presented: Sung by Paula Abdul and the poorly animated MC Skat Kat.

So far Paula Abdul’s opposite is a cartoon feline… who raps… and wears Ray Charles-like sunglasses.

Still there? Good.

Baby seems we never ever agree
You like the movies
And I like T.V.
I take things serious
And you take ‘em light
I go to bed early
And I party all night

My question is: No one thinks to question the cartoon cat crashing the party? Is this something that happens often? “How are you?” “Oh, I’m fe-line fine.” (Good grief that was bad. I’m sorry).

Our friends are sayin’
We ain’t gonna last
Cuz I move slowly
And baby I’m fast

I like it quiet
And I love to shout
But when we get together
It just all works out

Really? Your friends are saying that a HUMAN woman can’t get a relationship to work with a cartoon cat? *shock*

“It just all works out” - Meaning the sex is good.

The sex… with the cat… is good, so it works out.

Chorus:

I take–2 steps forward
I take–2 steps back
We come together
Cuz opposites attract
And you know–it ain’t fiction
Just a natural fact
We come together
Cuz opposites attract

What kind of twisted dance is this? And do they come together because opposites attract or because of a little thing called “bestiality”? I like to think I have a pretty open mind, let’s just call this what it is.

Who’d a thought we could be lovers
She makes the bed
And he steals the covers

Yeah, who would have thought? Also, stealing the covers is an asshole thing to do, Human or not.

She likes it neat
And he makes a mess
I take it easy
Baby I get obsessed
She’s got the money
And he’s always broke
I don’t like cigarettes
And I like to smoke

OK, so he’s an insensitive loser.

Let me get this straight: He’s a rapping cat who likes to party and shout, is a slob, always broke, and likes to smoke? Wow… what a catch! Even if both parties involved were human, I just don’t see how this would work.

The sex HAS to be good.

The cat sex… is good.

Baby ain’t it somethin’
How we lasted this long
You and me
Provin’ everyone wrong
Don’t think we’ll ever
Get our differences patched

Don’t really matter
Cuz we’re perfectly matched

Differences like him being a cartoon. Perfectly matched like farmer and sheep.

———-

The song ends with a few more rapped lines (by MC Skat Kat of course) and tap dancing by the happy “couple”.

God, this song sucks. Why did I post about it? Furthermore, who am I and why is everyone looking at me?

How can you now like “Opposites Attract”, that has got to be her best song, and she looked so hot in the video, mind you she looked so hot in all her videos.

And as for taking things in your stride, bullshit, remember I’ve been on the receiving end of your chat requests and I’ll happily confirm to the whole world you stress way too easily…

  2. Single In The City April 16th, 2008 at 2:00 pm

Paula used to be so hot! then she just I dunno what to say. I am glad you are back, I come to your page everyday to check out what is new!

Yeah that song is nerve racking!!

  3. Mimzie April 16th, 2008 at 3:29 pm

Paula Abdul scares me on many different level. Many!

  4. meleah rebeccah April 16th, 2008 at 4:34 pm

I was worried for a second with the lack of posting. After all I have become addicted to my daily dose of Jillian. I was having withdrawls.

    Paula is terrifying.

  5. Dawn April 16th, 2008 at 4:58 pm

Glad you’re back Jillian! And you’re right.. It has to be the sex ;)

  6. Jillian April 16th, 2008 at 5:20 pm

Carl- I DO stress easily…lol.. with certain things. But you’re not supposed to be telling secrets like that. Shame on you, sir. :-P

Single- Thanks a lot!!! Sheesh, it sucks when other crap needs to get done!

Mimzie- Haha and to think, when she made this song people considered her she was probably still “normal”. *shudder*

Meleah Rebeccah- LOL @ withdrawals. That is so SWEET. I feel a lot better now!!! But yeah, I am working on a few things.. blah blah blah… I am excited, though!

    Dawn- It’s SO obvious!!!

  7. Claire April 16th, 2008 at 7:02 pm

    I missed you :)

But Paula Abdul! haha you married someone that likes that! I mean I am sure the hubster is very nice but….

Okay I don’t really remember the song, so I cant remember if its bad or not.

  8. TOPolk April 16th, 2008 at 9:36 pm

I’ve got no beef with “Opposites Attract,” but “Straight Up” is easily her BEST song.

    Hands down.

  9. .45 April 16th, 2008 at 10:21 pm

“He’s a rapping cat who likes to party and shout, is a slob, always broke, and likes to smoke?”

This reminds me of someone I know. A friend of mine. Well, not even a friend, really. More of an acquaintance, barely. He just E-mails me sometimes, but I don’t return them unless there’s a 911 in the subject, but even then I wait at least 3 days to respond.

Paula Abdul is Queen Lame. That’s she’s 1 of 3 people appointed to discover American talent is a sad state of affairs.

  10. regretfulmorning April 16th, 2008 at 10:34 pm

    welcome back!

  11. Keli April 16th, 2008 at 10:49 pm

I think your analysis would be perfect for a college course in music lyrics. You got all the symbolism down. Thanks for clarifying about the cartoon cat and sex! (sorry for staring!)

  12. fwidman April 16th, 2008 at 11:53 pm

It’s about time you got over here! As for the song, I’ve never seen the video that I recall anyways, but I liked the song when it first came out, and I wouldn’t object to listening to it now :)

  13. fragileheart April 17th, 2008 at 12:27 am

lol I don’t like the song’s lyrics… but I like that song! lol Don’t ask me how I that works but it’s catchy! I used to love Paula before I found out she was a whackjob!

  14. Jillian April 17th, 2008 at 1:27 am

Claire- Awww! See and I was getting some Claire via Twitter.

Hahaha. He totally laughed at this comment. Because he knows IT’S TRUE. And to think he questions what I listen to.

TOPolk Haha @ “Straight Up”. I think I have that on a CD somewhere.

.45Sadly, that quote describes me more or less as well :-( I quit smoking, though!

And yes, she practically make “American Idol” unwatchable.

    regretufulmorning- Hey, thanks!

Keli- Too bad they don’t just hire for that kind of thing right off the street….

Frank- I know, right? 4 days is like an eternity in the Blogosphere!

Fragileheart- Hey that makes sense. Sometimes you can get caught up in a song’s beat and have no idea what the heck they are singing about!

And yeah… Paua obviously didn’t graduate from the D.A.R.E. program!

  15. whatigotsofar April 17th, 2008 at 7:34 am

I think you’re analyzing the lyrics too literally. The song isn’t about the love between a woman and a cat. It’s actually about lesbianism. The cat is the outed butch dyke while Paula is playing the part of the unsure-about-her-own-sexuality-first-time lesbian.
This is not me saying that Paula Abdul is a lesbian. I am saying the person who wrote the song (I don’t know who) was just writing a song about two different kinds of lesbians finding some common ground although their lives are so different.

  16. Roufa Tav Gosou & Mimi Lass April 17th, 2008 at 8:23 am

You mean to say farmer+sheep is as bad a match as woman+cat? Got ANY idea how many farmers would disagree???!!! We’ve known a couple! (We don’t know about the sheep, though…)

  17. Claire April 17th, 2008 at 9:14 am

By getting some I think you should clear that its words you got! I am not ‘that’ kind of twitterer, lol!

What other wrong songs does the hubster like? This could be a regular feature :)

  18. monaco April 17th, 2008 at 11:01 am

I used to like Paula until i heard her nonsensical remarks on American Idol!

  19. Mike April 17th, 2008 at 11:28 am

Ever seen a Lion mating session? 18 hours of dehydration! They do it like 100 times.

That being said, I hate paula abdul, she grates my every nerve, almost as much as Barbara Streisand or Leanord Cohen.

  20. Claire April 17th, 2008 at 11:57 am

Oh sweet Lord. Now that song is stuck in my head….

    Cxx

PS I sort of like it….is that wrong? ;)

  21. Jillian April 17th, 2008 at 12:58 pm

whatigotsofar- You might be on to something….

Roufa Tav Gosou & Mimi Lass- Hahaha, I’ve only known farmer and he was all tight-lipped on the matter.

Claire- Ooops! ;-) He buys ALL of the soundtracks from the WWE. :-/

*Note* I only received innocent words of descriptions from Claire while on you her trip to Germany… something about sausages. :-P

monaco- Remember when she kept talking about “colors” or whatever? What a weirdo!

Mike-Wait… YOU’VE seen a lion mating session? Why? Is there something you need to tell me?

Claire- I wouldn’t say exactly say it was wrong… lol :-D

  22. Random Chick April 17th, 2008 at 2:43 pm

OMG! I’m still LOL!!! I think I did pee…I have to change my pants now.

I think what happened is Paul Abdul wrote this song while she was on prescribed medication…and she forgot that she wrote it about her cat. When she went to the video people, they were like, ummm…you can’t do this with a “real” cat, do you really do this with your cat?? She insisted that they use her real cat and threw a really scary tantrum. So they placated her by drawing a dumb ass skat cat….oh, and giving her more prescribed medication.

That song really sucks ass too.

  23. Natural April 17th, 2008 at 3:36 pm

has it been that long? i just moved your blog to my reader and haven’t peeked at my reader in days, i’ve just been going down my blog roll reading and leaving comments to my peeps. well you can take a few days off, but don’t you go no where! we need you.

  24. Angelika April 17th, 2008 at 5:51 pm

You are SO special. Like my left leg… ;-p

I thought I was the only one who saw twisted things (like bestiality) in the mundane…

  25. Mr. Shife April 17th, 2008 at 6:06 pm

Paula has gone off the reservation and this song should have warned us years ago. She is bat shit crazy. One good thing though is that you are probably the only person who has dedicated a blog post to this song in years so any of her bat shit crazy fans searching for it might find your blog and then think of all the fun that you might have dealing with them.

  26. Claire April 17th, 2008 at 6:43 pm

    WWE is that wrestling?

  27. Nick Phillips April 17th, 2008 at 9:39 pm

Now that has to be one silly assed song and I sympathize with you that your hubby actually likes the song. Knock him on the head for me, will ya? LOL!

I agree with Meleah, Paula is terrifying!

  28. Chelle April 17th, 2008 at 10:00 pm

I remember thinking sometime when that song came out it was cool…but i was 8-10 years old, so at that time i probably thought it was bad-ass and “rad” lol…

i was more of a “blowing kisses in the wind” and “will you marry me boy?” fan at the time lol.

  29. Jillian April 17th, 2008 at 11:01 pm

Random- You know, the cartoon was probably her idea. The people in charge of production were like, “Oooook, if you think that’s a good idea…”

Natural- Seriously, it felt like a long time! Hopefully, I’m here to stay! :-D

Angelika- I see bestiality everywhere. :-|

Mr. Shife- I should make a habit of discussing more ultra-current references!

Claire- Yeah. I hate those soundtracks…. just NOISE!

Nick- Yeah, we don’t really agree on the music thing. Sometimes we click though, but not often.

Chelle- I’m going to say this at the risk of losing what little credibility I might have gained thus far: I like “Blowing Kisses in the Wind”. :-D

I think “rad” should make a comeback, along with “and how!”

  30. Phats April 18th, 2008 at 12:42 am

You did not just diss MC SKAT KAT!? I remember that song I loved it, but then again i was like 12 when it came out. Who doesn’t love that hot mess Paula Abdul!

  31. Erica April 18th, 2008 at 2:24 am

Old school Paula? Absolutely wonderful. I like “Forever Your Girl.”

  32. Berryvox April 18th, 2008 at 6:28 am

LOL You’ve ruined the song for me. That was the only song of hers that I liked. And now I’m going to think of bestiality every time I hear it.

Oh, well. It’s Paula Abdul. Who wants to like her?

  33. Qelqoth April 18th, 2008 at 8:52 am

Oh god, my ears! My poor ears! My poor bloody ears! MC Skat Kat?! My poor fucking ears!! :’(

  34. Kimba The White Lioness April 18th, 2008 at 9:38 am

I doooo remember the song - it was just OK.

    Ahem…speaking from a purely feline perspective…

Cat sex is pretty damn GOOD! Just ask my husband! Roar!!

(Of course, I’m not a REAL cat, by the way. I just THINK I am!)

    Purr…

    =P

  35. Jillian April 18th, 2008 at 10:32 am

Phats- I’ll excuse you because you were 12!! :-D

Erica- LOL. The only song I might download is “Blowing Kisses in the Wind”.. I DID like that song! Also, thanks for stopping by!

Berryvox- Bestiality does tend to ruin things… :-/

Qelqoth- MC Kat Skat was hittin’ it!

Kimba- Your H is a lucky man!!! ;-)
