Why I’ve Been Cheating On My Blog…. With My Life

You guys can go ahead and congratulate me, I passed my school bus driving test. I feel as good as someone who just won a free Coke from 7-Eleven. Any day now I’ll be receiving my new [commercial] Class B license and school bus certificate in the mail. Yup, I have been officially certified as someone who can safely transport young lives to and fro. The responsibility is practically crushing.

These past two weeks have been a little rough on me though.

First of all, it’s hot as fuck. Normally, I don’t mind the heat. I can function pretty well in it. But for some reason our apartment is now doubling as a sauna, and no matter how high we turn up the A/C it just doesn’t cut it. So that sucks and it also screws up my rest. I don’t know about you guys, but I take my sleepy time very seriously. I think all lazy people do.

Secondly, last Wednesday (6/11/08) I had my driving test (which as you know [because I just told you], I passed). I was a complete ball of nerves. I spent the duration of the test trying not to snap from the pressure and begin randomly hitting and running other cars off the road. The officer in charge of giving the test was really nice and actually made me feel a lot more comfortable than I thought I would. There I was building up the big day in my mind, only to get there and have her tell me to smile and relax. Oddly enough, that was all it took.

Third, I just got two trips under my belt. This past Wednesday and Thursday, I drove the kiddies to Raging Waters and Disneyland. Raging Waters was only a half day thing, so I didn’t get to go in. However, I did bring along my DVD player and entertained myself by re-watching the Awesomeness that is “Superbad“. But since the Disneyland trip was an all day thing, I was offered a free ticket into the park. And umm yeah, THAT TOTALLY KICKED ASS! I could definitely make a day of riding Star Tours and Space Mountain, both of those rides are tops. Aside from the heat, the only damper on the day was not having Jan there or someone else I have ANYTHING in common with (Disneyland minus loved one(s) and/or good friend(s) = Kinda Lame). But hell, I shouldn’t complain. They pay me for the WHOLE DAY… so while I was screaming my lungs out on Splash Mountain, I was also raking in the dough. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that!

Also, Disneyland has these really delish hand-dipped corndogs. The one I had was pretty good, but it reminded me of something:

this corndog looks like a big dick

Weird, huh?

Moving on…

I don’t know if the people I drive for are aware I’ve only had my license for a week. I imagine they don’t. I guess it’s not something you go around mentioning. “Dude, you’re totally safe. I’ve been driving since like yesterday.” But anyway, I thought I would list a few things a driver might want to avoid… especially if they are trying to build up passenger confidence in them. Now I’m not saying *I* did these things, but:

Don’t drive over the curb. Not only can it fuck up the tires, it’s not much fun for the people inside the bus.

Avoid driving over the curb. Seriously.

Try not to drive over the curb. People might start to think you don’t know what the heck you’re doing.

And lastly:

Be sure to NOT drive over the curb. Just to reiterate.

… It’s like they come out of nowhere.

Congrats to you! I positively know that if I was driving a bus, I’d drive over the curb, then I’d drive over it again and once more for good measure. I’ve even done it in my car. Something about distance or is it about paying proper attention?
I hear you about the heat - it was freaking 112 yesterday!
Good for you getting paid while riding Splash Mtn!

Congrats on the license and the pay :) Just watch out for the curbs, the cars, the pedestrians…
    LOL

Congratulations on passing the test! Now you just have to deal with all the arses who won’t let you merge because they refuse to be behind a bus (Hubby also has his commercial license).

    Oh Good For You!

Congratulations on passing the school bus driver test.

“Dont Drive On The Curb, Or Near The Curb”

    ….Oh. Okay. Noted!

The corndog picture Cracked Me Up…As did your post.

    xxoo

Woooooty woooooot! Congrats girl! However, I think the next time I get in a bus or a car or a taxi or something, I will ask the driver how long they have been driving for, and whether or not they have had any run-ins with a curb.

    :)

You know, my house, more specifically my bedroom has been acting like a sauna. Last night I set the AC to fucking 65 and it was STILL hot as hell. I need to feel like I am on the North Pole to get a good nights sleep… and being hot definitely does not work for me. Maybe I’m going through menopause!?!?

Those curbs are nasty. They are like friggin ninjas, too. Just sneak up on you.

I used to drive a big ass oil delivery truck, and one more thing you need to watch out for is soft road shoulders. Nothing quite like watching your vehicle sink into mud up to the axles.

Good luck transporting the little bastards.

    I meant kiddies. Honest.

Whoo Hoo Jillian…let’s on get on the party bus now that you can drive it!

I’m sweating my ass off today…it’s like 120 degrees! And what’s this global warming shit I keep hearing about…ugh! I hope it’s not that hot when we go to Disneyland next week. I hate the heat and I hate crowds. Stinky crowds especially.

Listen, I don’t ever want to hear of you cheating on your blog again. Do you hear that Missy!! Life getting in the way of blogging…I’ve never heard of such a thing!

    Congrats Mate… Awesome stuff…

After all that heat and testing nerves, it is good to see that all has ended well and better still with your disneyland trip.

Take some rest mate and see you soon..

    Have a nice weekend… Cheers…

Did you ever see that movie The Sweet Hereafter? DON’T! But then, you live in L.A., so not much danger of black ice, I suppose.

Life happens to all of us. Its hard to detail it all. Just do what you can, enjoy what you can, and blog what you can.

    …and don’t drive over the curb. ;-)

Congratulations on passing your test! I think I would be REALLY nervous if I was on a bus with someone who had only been driving for one day. That is cool though that they let you go to the park! Not so cool to be there all by yourself though!

I would so not want to drive a school bus…way too much responsibility for me!

  12. Natural June 21st, 2008 at 11:20 am

    Well BLOODY Done!!!!!!

You must be very special to drive a special bus :)

You ate that? Is there a limit to what you will put in your mouth?

Finally I have enough ammo for a Jillian inspired doodle, mwahahahahahahah!

  15. Relax Max June 22nd, 2008 at 10:38 am

Congrats. I would never have pictured you driving a school bus. Your attitude is not school bus. More like Hummer. But congratulations. :)

  16. Jillian June 23rd, 2008 at 9:26 am

@ Everybody - So yeah, I totally didn’t respond to comments which is so unlike me. Unfortunately I’m still getting used to having to be somewhere all day. This means I’ll have to work out a new schedule for writing, reading blogs, etc etc etc. Bah.

But thanks for your comments and constant SUPPORT. I’ll get it together if it kills me, hopefully it won’t though.

  17. Claire June 23rd, 2008 at 11:53 am

    YOU SUCK!

Okay I am joking, I will respond to comments and totally confuse folks eh?

    :)

  18. .45 June 23rd, 2008 at 6:12 pm

I totally understand. Since I started working again, I hardly have any free time; and the time I do have is not best spent trying to get online, and then actually being online. ;)

I’d much rather do something productive, like write a movie. :)

  19. Jillian June 23rd, 2008 at 7:43 pm

@ Claire and .45- Have I told you lately how much I love you?

  20. meleah rebeccah June 23rd, 2008 at 8:13 pm

And I thought maybe you didnt love me anymore, (lack of response) or I had somehow offended you.

    MISS YOU GIRL!!

  21. Claire June 24th, 2008 at 5:06 am

No you haven’t told me lately, in fact you called me a geek instead :(

Erm did you just quote song lyrics in that comment?

  22. fragileheart June 26th, 2008 at 7:07 am

Awh I understand too!! You should lookit my blog!! I don’t even have anything good to say lately…. at least not interesting enough to get people to comment :( Oh well. I still know I’m great! hahaha

  23. Roufa Tav Gosou & Mimi Lass June 27th, 2008 at 6:52 am

    Congratulations, Jillian!

Following Relax Max’s comment… Perhaps you can post a picture of you behind the wheel! (The steering wheel.)

  24. Jillian June 27th, 2008 at 3:17 pm

@ Meleah Rebeccah- No! You did nothing to offend me :D I’ve just been trying to find a balance now that I have to work again. Boooo. Why can’t I just win the lottery?

@ Claire- I DID quote lyrics! They have a song for everything!

@ fragileheart- Yes, you ARE great :P And good to see you’re back!

    @ RTG & Mimi Lass- Yes… I JUST might do that :D

  25. Claire June 27th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
