I like children.

And not in the creepy way.

I thought I would strike up a conversation, otherwise things were going to get progressively awkward. Now I know at my age it’s to soon to start complaining about feeling “old”, but I must say, conversing with children never fails to highlight my advancement in years.

So I struck up a conversation with the boy I was sitting next to. I asked hard hitting questions like: “What’s your favorite food?” and “What cartoons do you like?”

Then we got to the issue of color. The conversation went something like this:

Me: So what’s your favorite color?
Boy: Pink.
(The H having heard this, shoots him a look)
Boy: … and you know, blue.

I did not mean to find this funny, but I couldn’t help myself. The H and I spent the whole meal stifling laughter and exchanging looks. This conversation is still a source of entertainment for us, we often perform dramatic re-enactments and laugh our asses off.

The truth is, I have no problem with the kid’s choice in color. This whole post is a classic example of what a bad influence my husband can have on me.

Above photo by ckirkman

*****

THING OF THE DAY:

So, remember when I stood in line for three hours so a certain SOMEONE could get the autograph and picture of WWE wrestler Mick Foley?

Let’s move on…

A Valentine’s Day scribbling:

We’re young.

We spend our money on Wrestling Pay-Per-Views and DVD’s. We go to movies and text friends about them. We MySpace. We lie in bed all day putting off laundry and paying bills. We don’t open mail. We quit jobs because they suck while having nothing else lined up. We watch cartoons and complain about dialogue. We talk about our childhood like it’s so far behind us. We feel old sometimes, like we know it all.

We realize how good we had it at home. We hate teenagers and complain about their music. We’re baffled by what passes for clothes these days. We’re liberal and conservative at the same time. We have leftover pizza for breakfast, some nights we only have dessert. We don’t eat our vegetables. We think it’s cool to buy beer and brag about showing our ID’s. We live in a home cluttered with action figures on the shelves and wrestling figures on the wall. We read comics and feel superior in our Superhero knowledge. We play videogames ’till dawn and look up cheat codes when frustrated. We plan parties that never happen and activities we never do.

We talk.

Growing up scares us. We worry about what our friends think, they seem to have it together. We casually discuss having kids while watching TV. We dream of travel. We talk about 401Ks and healthcare. We discuss what to do if one of us dies and the proper mourning period.

We argue over who gets the remote and what to watch on TV. We lose things and fight about who should look for them. We’re never on time. Our quality time involves surfing the Internet and sharing sites we “discover”. We practice different accents in case we need them. We let one another complain even if the situation is our fault.

We’re…us.

THING OF THE DAY:

I hope TOO (to??) many people aren’t using these. From the webcomic XKCD:
